Becoming a Freemason

If you value friendship, integrity and helping others, there may be a place for you at the Lodge of Hospitality.

Could this be for you?

Who can become a member

Freemasonry welcomes men from all walks of life. You don’t need to be wealthy, well-connected or invited — and you certainly don’t need to already know a Freemason. What matters is your character and your values.

A man aged 18 or over

Of good character and reputation, wanting to make a positive contribution to yourself and your community.

Open in belief

Freemasonry asks members to have a belief in a Supreme Being, but is open to men of all faiths. It is not a religion and never discusses religion or politics at meetings.

Willing to share our values

Integrity, friendship, respect and charity — a genuine wish to build good character and lasting friendships.

Ready to enjoy yourself

Freemasonry is sociable and rewarding. A sense of humour and a willingness to get involved go a long way.

The journey

How to join, step by step

There’s no mystery to it. Becoming a member is a friendly, unhurried process — and you can stop at any point if it’s not for you.

Step 1 — Get in touch
Send us an enquiry using the form below. There’s no commitment — it simply opens a friendly conversation.

Step 2 — Meet us informally
We’ll arrange an informal chat — often over a coffee or a meal — so you can ask anything you like.

Step 3 — Learn what’s involved
We’ll explain membership openly: the meetings, the traditions, the time commitment and the costs.

Step 4 — Apply to join
If it feels right for both of us, you’ll be proposed as a candidate and welcomed into the Lodge in a warm ceremony.

Step 5 — Begin your journey
You’ll be guided every step of the way by members who’ve been exactly where you are — and you’ll gain friends for life.
